Woods Valldata Gambling Regulatory Roadshow Success
At the end of January, we ran our annual Gambling Regulatory Roadshow in central London, which was a huge success with 50 delegates from over 20 different charities attending.
As long-standing External Lottery Managers, providing our clients with a thorough understanding of the most up-to-date gambling regulations is central to our specialist support. Hence why we have been running the Gambling Regulatory Roadshow since 2016, which aims to provide charities with a detailed understanding of the regulation surrounding prize-led fundraising compliance. It also helps fulfil the requirement for licensed operators to undertake periodic Gambling Act refresher training.
The Roadshow provides an excellent opportunity for charities to re-familiarise themselves on the fundamentals of the Gambling Act & Licence Conditions & Codes of Practice (LCCP), and serves as a checklist for compliance. Delegates also benefit from access to one of the UK’s leading Gambling lawyers, Andy Woods from Woods Whur.
The agenda was organised into a morning session where Andy outlined the main parts of the Gambling Act and LCCP and how they relate to the charity society lotteries. In the afternoon, the session went into more depth, addressing specific areas of interest from the audience and any recent changes to the regulations.
By the end of the day, we had covered off all the current regulatory details that you need to comply with as a licensed operator, including: required licences, the current code of practice, remote technical standards, rules, terms & conditions and reporting commitments. Also discussed were the organisational roles and responsibilities that the Gambling Commission expect you to understand, and comply with.
During the last hour, there was an informal interactive question and answer session where our audience got to ask Andy specific questions about their own issues and concerns.
The feedback we have received from the Roadshow has been extremely positive in the past, and this year was no exception:
“The GRR is a really good opportunity to refocus on what’s important in terms of compliance with LCCP.”Toby Beddoe at RNIB
“Thank you once again for a really useful day and a brilliant speaker.”
Anna Carman at Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex
The Gambling Regulatory Roadshow has traditionally been an annual event but due to its popularity, is always oversubscribed. This year we are considering running a repeat of the event if there is sufficient interest from our clients and the sector.
The Roadshows are by invitation only and places are limited. They are suitable for all levels of attendees, from those who are new to prize-led
